Natural and biological language models: limitations & alternatives
“Large language models have taken over the scene in the last two years, and the emergence of generalized or superhuman artificial intelligence would, for some, be imminent. In natural language, or in the language of proteins, I will pick, in this not very technical presentation, various examples that highlight the current limitations of these models, even in their recent « thinking/reasoning » versions. As far as proteins are concerned at least, a hybrid approach, combining deep learning and automated reasoning, apparently offers a more solid alternative.”
