Call for Chair Application – Trustworthy AI in an Interdisciplinary Ecosystem
The Artificial and Natural Intelligence Toulouse Institute (ANITI) invites applications from outstanding researchers—junior or senior—for research chair positions within the framework of the newly established ANITI AI Cluster. This international-scale initiative builds on the recognized excellence of the 3IA ANITI program launched in 2019, which has significantly expanded the visibility of the Toulouse research ecosystem and doubled the number of AI-trained students.
The ANITI AI Cluster is a public-private ecosystem involving 16 academic entities, 30+ industrial partners, and numerous networks and innovation clusters. Toulouse, a global hub for aerospace, robotics, climate science, provides a unique environment for conducting cutting-edge AI research and deploying AI in mission-critical systems.
Our ambition is to address a central question for the future of AI:
Can AI be simultaneously performant, trustworthy, and widely deployed in society?
Research Context
We focus on Trustworthy AI (TAI), defined through seven core properties: explainability, robustness, fairness, safety, verifiability, frugality, and embeddability. The program leverages hybrid AI methodologies (generative AI, deep learning, symbolic AI, mathematics of AI, AI under physical constraints) and aims to demonstrate these properties in real-world deployments or environments.
We welcome projects in the following areas:
- Core and hybrid AI: robustness, frugal optimization, explainable machine learning, certifiable AI systems.
- AI+X: interdisciplinary research applying AI to domains like aerospace, energy, environment, law, and neuroscience.
- Societal impact and AI regulation: exploring ethical, legal, and economic aspects of AI deployment.
- Generative and probabilistic AI: evaluating the reliability and limits of large language models.
A Unique Environment
Toulouse is a thriving and internationally attractive city, home to Europe’s largest aerospace industry and the second academic region in France. ANITI will provide successful candidates with:
Dedicated PhD and postdoc positions
Competitive funding and computing infrastructure
Access to real-world datasets and industry partnerships
An interdisciplinary graduate school and international master’s in AI
Relying on our international attractivity, we aim to double the number of AI-trained students to 6,000/year by 2030, and foster a vibrant, inclusive, and collaborative research environment.
If you are eager to contribute to the next generation of AI technologies and advance the science of Trustworthy AI within an international, high-impact ecosystem, join us in Toulouse.
